Julia & Noel: Teaser

February 28, 2009

Julia & Noel were married on February 7 at Lowdermilk.  We had such a fun time at this wedding.  Julia’s family lives here, but Noel is from Ireland (living in Massechusetts now).  I tell you what, you need to go to an Irish wedding some time.  Those were the friendliest and most enjoyable guests I think I’ve ever been around.  It was a joy to shoot their wedding.  We didn’t have much time to get portraits of them both, but I did get a few.  We’re looking forward to a portrait shoot some time in the future!

A favorite from tonight

February 26, 2009

I’m still making my way through Carlos and Jenny’s engagement session, and I found this little gem tonight. It makes me smile inside.

Sarah and Rachel: the shoot

February 25, 2009

I had the pleasure of capturing sisters Sarah and Rachel a few weeks ago. I posted just two shots the other day. I wanted to add a few today. Sarah and Rachel are two really amazing people and I was so delighted to spend the afternoon with them.  I also had the pleasure of working with Heidi von Korff – she has an excellent eye and helped me with poses. The slightest changes make the biggest differences!

Jenny and Carlos: Teaser

February 23, 2009

When it rains, it pours. We had an uber-hot session on Saturday with one of my really good friends, Jenny, and her amazing fiance, Carlos. I am so blessed to be shooting their wedding in June. I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Jenny and Carlos are probably two of the best dressed people I’ve ever shot. Jenny’s ridiculously cute cardigan is from anthropology. Drool.

One thing I noticed from this shoot and the shoot with Sarah and Dane, is that couples have “sides” – they tend to stand on one side of each other. I wonder if there’s been a study on this. We had a really awesome time, and I can’t wait to post more photos!

Sarah and Dane: Teaser

February 23, 2009

We got to hang out with Sarah and Dane just one week before they moved back to New York. We even got to hang out with them one night at the county fair.  It was very sad to see them go, but we had an absolute BLAST with them while they were here. I just had to post a few photos before I finish editing all of them.

Arabesque of Naples

February 16, 2009

Matt and I are investing in stationery for our business and we decided to look at Arabesque of Naples. Arabesque specializes in all kinds of stationery from invitations to notebooks to thank you cards. They have an entire wall of portfolios with many different invitation designs. If you are getting married and haven’t chosen your invitations yet, you simply must make your way down to Arabesque on Fifth Avenue (right next to Altin’s Cafe). Their letterpress invitations are stunning. They also have engraved, thermography, and hand caligraphy invitations.

Matt and I walked in and were graciously greeted by Sheryl Sashin. We told her we were looking for letterpress business cards and stationery and she showed us the examples from Crane’s, Elum, Smock, and Julie Holcomb.  Nice stationery is one of a kind and has a certain feel to it. The business cards we looked at were as thick as a piece of gum and had a simple elegance that cannot be matched.  Elum and Crane’s paper is made from cotton and Smock paper is made from bamboo – both eco friendly materials.

We are still deciding on the style and design of our new business cards, but I will post pictures of them as soon as we have them. And in the mean time, you should check out Arabesque on your trip to downtown Naples. They are located at 350 Fifth Avenue South.

Mmmmm. Matt and I have found the most amazing “fast food” Mexican restaurant in the world. We simply can’t get enough of Bajio Mexican Grill.

Bajio has a similar waiting and ordering line as Moe’s, Tijuana Flats, and others. You stand in line and look at the menu, then step up to the counter. The interior decor is Mexican themed and they paid close attention to the details. Warm earth tone walls, broken mexican pottery, humorous cartoonish paintings, and magnificent metal lanterns make this restaurant seem like something you would find in Disney World. They offer a wide variety of options – many of which I haven’t seen at other restaurants of the same type. I ordered the full Ensalada Bajio with mequite grilled lime chicken and the Tortilla Soup. Matt has ordered the Stuffed Quesidillas with honey glazed chicken and Chicken Enchiladas on separate occasions. They give you many options for topping your meal – including corn, caramelized onions, guacamole, sour cream, cilantro, and many more traditional options.

So if you’re in Naples and you are getting a bit tired of Moe’s, stop by Bajio Mexican Grill – it’s in the new shopping plaza at Livingston and Pine Ridge Road, next to the casino (no joke).

Martinis & Makeup on Friday!

February 6, 2009

I spent last Saturday at Nancy Joseph’s Makeup Studio & Spa in Naples.  Nancy Joseph is a licensed aesthetician specializing in customized skin care treatments, nail care and professional makeup artistry for weddings & special events.  She uses airbrush makeup, which looks completely natural, is lightweight and unnoticeable, and gives you a flawless, sweat-proof finish that lasts up to 18 hours.  Perfect for weddings.  I hate wearing makeup, but Nancy gave me an airbrush foundation and some blush and I was sold.  I had a party later that night and got multiple comments on how smooth my skin looked.  Nancy is also incredibly kind and easy to work with and I highly recommend thinking of her when you have an event on the horizon!

Nancy’s Studio offers Martinis & Makeup on Fridays.  At 6PM, she opens her doors to anyone and everyone who wants a professional makeup job for the evening.  She offers martinis on the house, which you can sip as you she does your makeup.  Best of all – it’s FREE.  She also has an eyelash bar – fake eyelashes are the perfect compliment to flawless makeup (eyelashes, alas, are not free).  If you are in Naples on a Friday and want to look fabulous for the evening, stop by Nancy Joseph’s Makeup Studio & Spa and enjoy a night out on the town!
