We had the pleasure of shooting Holly and Adam’s wedding in Iron Mountain, Michigan back in 2009.  It was such a treat for us to shoot in an historic church with a reception in the armory.  Holly is truly one of the most talented people I know – she made ALL of her own decorations herself, and she sells her lovely creations at Bijou Lovely.  Holly and Adam were some of the nicest people we have ever met, and it was such a joy to spend the weekend with them and their families.

Weekend Sneak Peak

November 16, 2009

I’ve been sorting through this weekends weddings and I fell in love with this picture.  Kelly was one of the most beautiful brides of all time, and I am so looking forward to working with her again soon.  She and Matt had an absolutely wonderful wedding!  I will be posting their engagement shoot soon – along with pictures from our current work. We have enough fodder to post daily through the end of the year!

Petey

October 28, 2009

It took three days, and a LOT of coaxing, but Matt and I were finally able to brush Petey’s teeth.  Petey is our Miniature Australian Shepherd, and we are totally in love with him.  When he gets really excited, he grabs a toy and runs in circles, shaking his little rear end (since he doesn’t have a tail).  Once we finally won the battle of the toothbrush, we let him have the toothbrush and watched him go in circles.  He is a cutie!

Family

October 14, 2009

Family is really important to us. Sometimes I feel like we don’t put a high enough priority on spending time with our family – especially our grandparents. Time is short and we have a limited supply. I was reminded of thhis when my cousin visited us on Monday. She and her family are moving to Michigan for the foreseeable future, but it still hasn’t struck me that they are leaving Florida. My entire family has lived here for so long, it is hard to comprehend a long-distance move.   In honor of her moving, we all took pictures of our grandparents and their great-grandchildren – her daughters and my nieces. I haven’t taken enough time out to really photograph my grandparents, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to do so.  I wanted to focus on conveying who they are, so I used natural lighting and a telephoto lens.  I feel like these pictures really portray who they are.

Engaged: Cassie & Scott

October 6, 2009

Cassie and Scott are one of the cutest couples I have ever met.  They met in St. Augustine while Cassie was in college.  One thing I love about meeting all different couples is that each couple has a different personality and I love bringing that out in people.  Cassie and Scott are both surfers who love having fun and love the outdoors, and they gave me free reign to do whatever I wanted.  So I thought it would only be fitting if they had a picnic.  Asside from the heat and the mosquitoes, it would be something memorable for them to look back on later and enjoy.  We had so much fun at Koreshan Park.   Here are some pictures.

We were already breaking a few rules, so I brought water instead of champagne:

Shari & Sean

October 2, 2009

Shari Bare has a very special place in my heart.  When I first became interested in wedding photography, she is the photographer who let me tag along and learn the ropes.  She has taken me to dinner, told me all about the industry, and really helped me grow as a photographer.  Shari is one of the most wonderful people you will ever meet – she’s always kind, never assuming, and makes you feel all happy inside when you talk with her!  So you can imagine how sad I was to hear that she was moving to Austin, TX.  A few weeks before she and Sean moved, we shot their engagement session.  They were just married this past weekend, and I thought it would be lovely to post their engagement session in honor of their marriage.  Shari, we really miss you here!  I hope Texas is as wonderful as all the Texans claim!

First, a few shots from inside their apartment:

We went to Blu Sushi on Third Street South in Naples.  It was the last day they were open. They said they would re-open during season, but Matt and I have confirmed that Blu Sushi is no where near re-opening. And we’re kind of bitter that we don’t know who they sold the furniture to!

No Naples day is complete without a trip to the beach:

And no trip to the beach is complete without trashing your dress:

They requested a few shots that could be made into panoramas.  I thought we could end with this one:

Congrats on your wedding, Shari, and I hope you are having an awesome honeymoon!!!

Sneak Peak: Jenny & Carlos

September 28, 2009

Jenny & Carlos were married three months ago, but we had the pleasure of taking them out for pictures last night. We had such a blast and are thankful to the Bellasera for being so accommodating! Here is one shot that I had to post immediately.

Matt and I have decided to start blogging date night ideas. We already blog restaurant reviews – when we have the chance to try out a new place. So we thought we would start by writing a restaurant review AND a date night – in the same piece. This isn’t actually our first date idea – we have a road trip date coming up in the blog later this week or next. But I thought it would be fun to post these two together.

DaRuMa is a Japanese Steak and Seafood restaurant that offers traditional Japanese food as well as Teppan-style dining. There are two restaurants – one in Sarasota, and one in Naples. The Naples restaurant is located at Vanderbilt Beach Road across from the Ritz Carlton.

DaRuMa comes highly recommended. The food is amazing and the Teppan-style preparation is entertaining. I ordered the vegetarian meal (I love veggies) and Matt ordered the seared Tuna, both of which were fantastic.  I have ordered the scallops as well, and they were simply amazing. Teppan-style dining is where you sit around a large flattop grill where your food is prepared by a master chef. You start with hot soup and a salad with ginger dressing. The chef appears and prepares the veggies and shrimp while you finish your salad. Your food is cooked to order right in front of you, and the chefs put on a show of sorts. I highly recommend DaRuMa for family outings and date nights. The food is served in courses, which gives you more time to connect with each other. I was thrilled that Matt suggested DaRuMa and we were not disappointed. If are in Naples (or Sarasota) and have the opportunity, don’t miss a chance to eat here.

Alison & Aaron

July 20, 2009

Alison came down to Naples visit her cousins here a few years ago. She joined us for Ultimate Frisbee and came to dinner right after. I had a wonderful time getting to know her during her visits, so I was thrilled when she married a local friend, Aaron. We all attend the same Bible Study on Sunday nights, and it is always wonderful to catch up with them. They volunteered to do a model shoot with us one night – we had such an awesome time at the Corkscrew Swamp!  I am looking forward to getting together with them often.

Isn’t Alison Beautiful?

July 2, 2009

Matt and I have a few weddings and trips planned around the country. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to travel together and take pictures in places other than Florida! Our travel plans are not yet solidified, so we would LOVE to fit some portraits in during our travels! Let us know if you are interested in a portrait session (individual, couple, maternity, boudoir – you name it!) and we’d love to schedule you in! Here are the dates we currently have down:

July 11 – Amelia Island, FL – it’s possible to schedule a shoot on July 10 or July 12

August 8 – Greenville, SC – we are free before and after the wedding. No specific plans have been made

September 5 – Iron Mountain, MI – we will be free for part of Thursday and Friday before, as well as Sunday morning

We are also making plans to shoot around the country in 2010! We are looking forward to it!
